Air Supply: The Definitive Collection for Airheads

Hola, Airheads.

I love Air Supply. No shame. No Facebook account. My only proof of loyalty is my Air Supply CD.

45 years after joining forces to form Air Supply, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell are still touring. Or they were until this worldwide pandemic thing interrupted their global adventures.

Air Supply has performed in Latin America, and no doubt many native Spanish speakers have learned some English.

Lots of wonderful people who have “supplied” exact translations, which lack metering and rhyme, have posted YouTube videos. As far as I can tell, Air Supply doesn’t perform any songs in Spanish. Roig Rivera, does a marvelous cover of “Lost in Love” (Perdido en Amor”), and he seems to be the only person who has at least dabbled in the transcreation of Air Supply’s songs.

Transcreation, for the uninitiated, is all about capturing the spirit of the original work, not reproducing a replica in other language.

For all the Airheads in Argentina or wherever Spanish is spoken, and for anyone who wants to learn Spanish by singing, please consider listening to “Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)” in English. Then give my transcreation a go:

Here I am, playing with those mem'ries again

Aquí estoy, recordándonos una y otra vez

And just when I thought time had set me free

Al pensar que los años me han dado libertad

Those thoughts of you keep taunting me

Esos pensamientos son mi realidad

Do you want to see the rest of the transcreation? Need help with the pronunciation? Are you considering learning Spanish and not sure of your goals? Sure of what your goals are but stuck on how to achieve them? Are you a musician who wants to broaden your audience?

I’m here to listen. Let’s get started.
